I want a tattoo, I want it inked beautifully and intricately deep into my skin. No colour, a simple black ink will do. I want to go outside and find a swing and jump off it when my head goes dizzy and makes me smile uncontrollably. I want to venture outside my door and find my best friend and take her somewhere she’s always dreamed of. I want to let her know just how much she means to me. I want to take all the money out of my bank and buy silly little things from insignificant shops. I want to walk up to the cigarette counter and buy a chocolate bar instead of reducing the amount of time my heart will beat in. I want to strip in front of a mirror and draw all over myself and put a star next to all the parts I love so by the time I’m finished no part of my skin will be uncovered. I want to sit with my mum and show her my wrists and explain the mechanism of coping. I want to take her fears away and I want her to know I never stopped loving her even though she’s unable to look at me the way she used to. I want to take all the glass I’ve broken, wrap it in a pretty tissue and put it in my scrapbook with a label; ‘never look back’, I would love to do all these things but right now I hardly have the strength to stand up. Right now I’m still perfecting the art of breathing.
